Job Advert Summary:-

Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) Corporate Finance Team:

  • The SSA Corporate Finance team is responsible for the origination, structuring, execution and distribution of local and cross-border corporate finance transactions in the Sub-Saharan Africa region, across Citi’s 11 presence countries and 25+ non-presence countries. This includes (among others) debt and hedging products but typically does not include equity products.
  • The team collaborates closely with the in-country and industry BCMA teams (Corporate Bank, Investment Bank and Global Subsidiaries Group), as well as the relevant product teams (including Loans & Leveraged Finance, Debt Capital Markets, Export & Agency Finance, Project & Infrastructure Finance and Markets & Securities Services).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibility for the West & Central Africa (excluding Nigeria) region (“WCA”). Though the role will be based in Johannesburg, it will involve extensive interaction with the local WCA teams and clients, and is likely to involve travel to the region.
  • Working with the junior members of the Corporate Finance team located in Johannesburg, who will provide support on a transaction-by-transaction basis.
  • Working with BCMA coverage teams and product partners to 1) identify, pitch for and originate debt financing, hedging and other corporate finance opportunities with WCA clients, 2) structure transactions optimally for the client’s needs and Citi’s requirements, 3) seek internal approvals (including credit approvals) as required, and 4) lead the execution, documentation and distribution of these transactions (including liaising with 3rd parties such as co-lead banks, other lenders and credit support providers, and legal advisers).
  • Stay informed of market best practices and industry trends, and feed this into internal and client-facing conversations.
  • Assess risks inherent in transactions, including (without limitation) credit risk, market risk, legal/regulatory risk, operational risk and reputational risk.
  • Escalate and manage control issues as they arise.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • At least 5 years of experience.
  • Proven credit analysis skills.
  • Advanced financial modelling skills.
  • Experience with large corporate clients, preferably in the fields of lending, capital markets products, derivatives and trade finance.
  • Understanding of the corporate banking business model including related products, pertinent regulations and the credit approval process.
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication.
  • Client-facing experience.
  • Negotiation skills.
  • Experience in a leadership role including managing junior team members.
  • Experience managing complex projects from end-to-end.
  • Meticulous attention to controls, ensuring compliance with policies, guidelines and ethical principles throughout.

 

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience. A further qualification such as an MBA or Master’s Degree is a plus.
  • Proficiency in English and French.

The Technology Lead Business Analyst is a senior-level position responsible for liaising between business users and technologists to exchange information in a concise, logical and understandable way in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to continuous iterative exploration and investigation of business performance and other measures to gain insight and drive business planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop creative technical solutions to meet business needs and manage complex, high volume applications in partnership with business partners and stakeholders
  • Manage multiple work stream and applications across geographies for Credit Initiation and Onboarding
  • Contribute to formulation of strategies/processes for Product Road map, Development and Governance and contribute to defining standards and new automation initiatives
  • Develop communication to guide, influence and convince others, including colleagues in other areas and external customers
  • Provide advice and counsel related to the technology or operations of the business and filter, prioritize and validate potentially complex material from multiple sources
  • Supervise day-to-day staff management issues, including resource management, work allocation, mentoring of onsite and offsite resources and other duties and functions as assigned
  • Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency.

Qualifications:

 

  • 6-10 years of experience in business analysis or systems analysis
  • Demonstrated expertise in presenting and using planning tools
  • Proven diplomatic and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to manage complex and variable issues with substantial potential impact by weighing various action plans and balancing potentially conflicting needs

Education:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
  • Master’s degree preferred

 

  • 3-5 years of experience on the Equities/Markets businesses preferably in a multinational financial institution
  • Very knowledgeable on the South African Markets business
