About the role

We are offering a 12-month internship programme in the following fields: Engineering, Supply Chain & Logistics, Human Resources, Communication and Stakeholder Relations in the Rio Tinto RBM team, based in Richards Bay Minerals, KwaZulu Natal. This role is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to develop and strengthen their skills and industrial experience.

What you’ll bring

Electrical Engineering Heavy Current, or

Mechanical Engineering, or

Chemical Engineering, or

Industrial Engineering, or

Mining Engineering, or

About the role

We are looking for a Specialist: Capability Development to develop processes, initiatives, programmes and technologies that enable the retention of key organisational talent-all geared towards driving business priorities. The role is mainly responsible for planning, implementation of OD interventions and programmes for developing and retaining people with the required skills and aptitude to meet current and future organizational needs.

RBM has an imperative to deliver on the Social & Labour Plan (SLP) in order to achieve specific HDSA transformation targets. There is a direct responsibility of this role to help ensure that the business deliver on business transformation. The Advisor Specialist Capability Development also provides a link between RBM and RioTinto in terms of talent pipeline initiatives and development.

Reporting to the Manager: Capability Development & Training, you will be:

  • Implement and monitor the transformation agenda (SLP-HRD, EE, BBBEE and Digital transformation).
  • Coordinate the career development assessments process for the business in collaboration with Talent Acquisition team and HRBP’s
  • Conceptualise, research, design, develop and deliver frameworks and practices that drive digital transformation within CDT
  • Drive initiatives designed to build talent capabilities across the organization.
  • Facilitate the mentorship programme by monitoring and supporting the relationships, implementing training for both mentor and mentees.
  • Lead the RBM Graduate Development programme including the delivery of development initiatives
  • Support in the execution of HR projects
  • Establish reporting schedules and frameworks; create reports to provide updates according to established timelines; ensure the integrity of the data is upheld with the HR data.
  • Support the development and molding of the culture and transformation journey at RBM

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • B Degree in Industrial Psychology and /or equivalent
  • Registered Psychometrist and Postgraduate diploma would be an added advantageous.
  • EB License
  • 5 years in HR and/or learning and Development environment role in a heavy industrial environment
  • Solid experience is statutory reporting (Employment Equity, WSP, ATR, etc.) and Resourceful in overcoming roadblocks that hinder processes
  • Understanding and knowledge of SA legislation and knowledge of respective HR policies, procedures and processes.
  • Sound knowledge of capabilities matrix in line with changes in industry into the digital world.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects and managing activities to meet multiple competing deadlines.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills and proficient in other MS Suite (i.e. Outlook, Word etc.),
  • Comfortable working in an environment in which businesses processes, tools, deadlines etc. are continually evolving
  • High degree of organizational and time management skills; able to set and manage expectations and competing priorities
