Senior Management level: Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer
Environmental Management system: Responsible for effective implementation and maintenance of environmental performance:
Implementing, maintaining and monitoring an Environmental Management system.
Implementation and adherence to environmental legislation requirements and conditions as outlined, in the environmental authorisations. Implement, assess and monitor performance, commitments and recommendations of the Environmental Management Programme and plans.
Implementation of Environmental Standard Operating Method Statements.
Implementation of Environmental Management Awareness Program. Providing timely guidance and service to Management and Contractors on how to implement environmental requirements such as pollution control, waste mitigation, best environmental management practices as well as other requirements listed in the approved Environmental Management Program (EMPr), Environmental Authorisation (EA), Integrated Water Use License (IWUL) and Atmospheric Emission License (AEL).
When required, coordinate and manage rehabilitation projects for specific sites
Environmental Compliance to ensure delivery of the organisation targets and compliance to corporate and legislative requirements: Compile environmental audit reports as required:
Compile environmental impact assessments as required.
Ongoing identification and assessment of environmental impacts.
Conduct monthly audits to ensure that environmental requirements are being adhered to.
Ensure effective implementation of recommendations made by external Environmental Consultants.
Inspect and monitor compliance with environmental management requirements, including approved Environmental Authorisations and Environmental Management Programmes.
Ensure accurate submission/reporting of various Environmental reports, to statutory/regulatory bodies, as required, including data submission portals such as, the National Atmospheric Emissions Informations Systems.
Evaluate environmental audit reports compiled by environmental consultants and follow-up on audit report recommendations and corrective action.
Ensure legal compliance of all Environmental policies and provide input into policy updates and reviews.
Collect and maintain data required for environmental reporting purposes
Waste Information system and reporting of incidents: Manage waste collection and sampling techniques:
Identify historical and current waste on site, requiring safe disposal.
Assist Management with waste disposal on site, according to the Waste Management procedure and maintain records of waste disposal certificates.
Compile reports for amount of waste disposed of and update the Gauteng/ South African Waste Information System.
Understanding sampling techniques in relation to water and air quality monitoring.
Record, investigate and report on environmental incidents internally and externally as required
People Management and Training:
Effectively interact with shareholders, clients, authorities, contractors and others relating to environmental management.
Perform advisory function to management at an operational level.
Organise employee’s environmental awareness training to ensure that employees are familiar with the environmental risks associated with their duties.
